Mary Ellen Hunnicutt (Thorpe) of Brandon, FL

April 11, 1938 - August 16, 2026

Mary Ellen Thorpe, 88, of Brandon, FL peacefully entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on August 16, 2026. Born in 1938 in Raleigh NC, she graduated from Needham B. Broughton High School. In 1958, she married the love of her life, David A Thorpe Sr. in Raleigh, NC. They moved to the Tampa Bay area in 1961 where they raised 3 children and enjoyed the blessing of 3 grandchildren and a great grandchild.

Mary Ellen was a homemaker and established watercolor artist. She rarely saw a mountain vista, shoreline, daffodil, or iris that she didn't "just have to paint". Mary Ellen also loved books, mysteries, and music, particularly classical and worship music. Her southern roots reflected in her wonderful cooking, and she carried on memorable family traditions. Mary Ellen was a devout follower and disciple of Jesus Christ, and her faith was unshakeable.

She was preceded in death by her husband and soul mate, David (Dave) Thorpe Sr., who passed in Oct. 2025. They were married for 67 years, and apart for only 10 months. They are now rejoicing together in heaven. Mary Ellen is survived by daughter Kelly Schubert (Glen), David Thorpe Jr. (Kim), Shannon Albert (Mike) , three granddaughters Jessica Sanders (Peter), Rachael Schubert, and Melody Schubert, and one great granddaughter Adelyn Schubert. Loved by so many, her light and presence is missed by all.
