Obituary for Charles Edward Spencer, U.S. Air Force 
April 27, 1939 - January 4, 1961

Air Force Cadet Charles Edward Spencer, Jr.  Reece Air Force Base, Texas, died Wednesday with his instructor when both tried to parachute from their crippled jet
trainer.

Spencer was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Edward Spencer, both former High Point teachers, now of 2609 Hazelwood Dr., Raleigh. 

The cadet was a 1957 graduate of Needham Broughton High School and attended NC State College for two years. At college he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity.  He joined the Air Force in 1960.

Bruce Hoadley

Ed Spencer was a Sigma Chi fraternity brother of mine at NC State. He was training to be an Air Fore jet pilot when his fighter jet crashed. So, Ed gave his life to our beloved country.
