Troy James "Jim" Dean, Jr. died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 following an extensive battle with lung disease.
Jim was the son of the late Troy James Dean and Clara G. Dean and was a native lifelong resident of Raleigh. He graduated from Needham B. Broughton High School in 1957 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Following his naval service, Jim returned to Raleigh and attended Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC where he graduated in 1965 with degrees in Business Administration and Accounting. While at Campbell University, he met the love of his life, Betty Fowler, and they were married in 1962.
Jim retired from the State Department of Health and Human Services in 1999, where he worked in the Secretary's Office as a Budget Analyst. He loved and enjoyed his family, his church, his friends, cooking on the grill, and playing golf.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 49 years, Betty Fowler Dean; sons, Michael Troy and wife Angela, Cary, NC; Gregory Scott and wife Mary, Greensboro, NC; grandchildren Conner and Emily; brothers Robert and wife Jan, Greenville, NC; and Tim, Wake Forest, NC; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
