Larry Michael (Mickey) Brock

Obituary for Larry "Mickey" Brock of Raleigh, NC
Died on January 17, 2018

Larry Michael "Mickey" Brock passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at Transitions LifeCare. He was predeceased by his parents, Lawrence Michael Brock and Gladys Inez Lawler.

Mickey was raised in Raleigh and attended Raleigh Schools, graduating from Broughton High School where he played drums and cymbals in the band. He went on to North Carolina State University and enjoyed being in the Marching Band there. He performed at the Raleigh Little Theater when he was a child. He and his wife, Pat, were members of First Presbyterian Church for over 40 years where Mickey received a plaque as Deacon Emeritus.

In the early 1970's, he worked for First Citizens Bank in Jacksonville, Havelock, and Little Washington. During those years he was active in the Lions Club and Rotary Club. Upon his return to Raleigh, he worked for the State Department of Transportation. Then he joined the staff of Commissioner of Insurance Jim Long and traveled with him throughout the state to insurance related meetings.

His love of North Carolina State University was showed by joining the University Club and the State Club.

In recent years, Mickey joined Crabtree Baptist Church and remained a member until he became ill. Mickey not only had many loyal friends, he was a friend to anyone he met. He loved being around his buddies, and always had a smile on his face. He especially enjoyed seafood and reminiscing about the good ole days when he was active in politics. Mickey also loved his animals and treated them like humans.

Mickey and his wife had a caring and unconditional love that lasted over 40 years. He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Moore Brock; his sister, Bonnie Partin (Earl) and nieces Jennifer (Jeff) Reed and Lisa (David) Lee; his cousin, Martha King (Sidney), and many other beloved cousins.

We wish to thank all the nurses at Rex Hospital, Rex Rehab, The Oaks at Mayview, and Transitions LifeCare for their care. He was well tended by his lifelong friend, Dr. William Dunlap, founder of Wake County Hospice, now Transitions LifeCare. Special thanks to all his wonderful friends: Michael Edwards, Gary Blevins, John Dail, Ronnie Condrey, Cloyce Anders, Bill Hamlett, Bruce Dillard, Marvin Dorman, and so many who did their best to make his last days peaceful and comfortable; those from New Bern, Raleigh, Semora, and Beaufort, South Carolina.
