Elizabeth Wynne Moore (Meeks)

Obituary for Elizabeth "Liz" Moore (Meeks) of Kirkwood, MO
September 5, 1939 - November 2, 2018

Elizabeth “Liz” Moore Meeks, 79, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 2, 2018 after a short battle with brain cancer.

She was born Elizabeth Wynne Moore on September 5, 1939, in Raleigh, NC, to parents Charles Jesse and Annie Virginia Dunn Moore. She obtained an associate degree from Peace College of Raleigh. On June 27, 1959, she married James William Meeks from Germantown, TN. They raised three children together and lived in Chapel Hill and Durham, NC, Guntersville, Alabama, and Creve Coeur and Kirkwood (Oakland), MO, over the course of their 59 year marriage. They have been in Kirkwood for the past 42 years.

Liz was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Charles Christopher (Chris) Meeks. She is survived by: husband, Bill, of the home; son, Bill Meeks, Jr. (Gail); daughter, Kathy Meeks Conklin (Scott); daughter-in-law, Gina Meeks; grandchildren: Sarah Lill (Jeremy), Mary Hoover (Tony), Scott Conklin, Jr. (Paige), Ann Conklin, Christian Meeks, Elizabeth Meeks, and Paul de Iglesia (Amanda); six great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Dunn Moore (Emmie); sister, Marion DeGrechie; five nieces and numerous cousins.

Liz was a most loving wife, mother, “Memaw” to her grand and great-grandchildren, and friend to all who knew her. She loved people and had a huge servant’s heart, always putting others before herself; she was always desiring to brighten others’ days. She made others feel noticed and valued, showing compassion and providing encouragement. Liz was known for her gifts of sugared pecans and small loaves of sweet bread, as well as her hugs, even hugging all the doctors and nurses she came in contact with through the course of her illness! She was also a dedicated “prayer warrior”, lifting up the needs of others before the Lord Jesus Christ. And, as a Christian, that was her greatest joy and desire, serving the Lord in all that she did. She was a very active member of their church, Central Presbyterian in Clayton, MO., drove for Meals On Wheels, served as a discussion leader for Bible Study Fellowship, and served as Women’s Chaplain for The Gideon’s Auxiliary for several years. Her church involvement through the years included being involved in women’s ministries, challenged child class leadership, Thursday Prayer Breakfast, Growth Group, Church Group, and World Missions to name a few. Liz had the gift of hospitality, loving to host gatherings at home. She took great pride in making hers and Bill’s home a cozy, welcoming place. Her other interests included gardening, Bridge, baking, decorating, and reading. Employments included church secretary, The Frame Shop employee, and State Farm Insurance secretary/clerk.

Liz will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
