Obituary for Cecil Rupert (Bo) Conyers, Jr. of Knightdale, NC

June 15, 1939 - October 22, 2021

Cecil Rupert (Bo) Conyers, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home on October 22, 2021. Bo was affectionately given the name "Bo Boy" by his late father, Cecil Rupert Conyers, Sr. Bo was born in Wake County on June 15, 1939, to the late Mr. Conyers and Sarah McDaniel Conyers. He graduated from Needham Broughton High School in 1957 and went on to receive a BA Degree from UNC Chapel Hill.

Sixty-one years ago, Bo married Mary Byrum, who has been his loving and devoted wife for all the years since then.

Bo retired from the NC Department of Administration with 27 years of service. He served on various committees and organizations - his last being involved with the Eastern Wake Fire Board of Directors. His dedication and integrity led him to be honored in many ways. Bo was appointed by Governor James B. Hunt to The Order of the Long Leaf Pine, and appointed by James A. Graham as North Carolina Ambassador of Agriculture. Other honors include Honorary Attorney General to the state of North Carolina and an honorary certificate from the Indian Commission.

On May 22, 2007, Bo suffered a severe stroke causing aphasia and severally weakening his right side. Bo made it easy for Mary to care for him following his stroke. Because of the amazing dedication of Mary, Bo was able to continue to do all of the things he loved so much; socializing with friends, going out to lunch, raising horses, and raising pheasants. Bo was also able to maintain his beloved Windsong Miniature Horse Farm that he and Mary purchased in 1975. Bo and Mary had restored the farm to its showplace condition.

Saying that Bo was a dedicated husband, father and friend would be an understatement. Bo helped so many people that others would have turned away. His infectious laugh and outgoing personality enabled him to accumulate numerous lifelong friends.

Surviving Bo is his loving and devoted wife, Mary Byrum Conyers, who has been his constant caregiver since his stroke. Also surviving Bo are his sons Kenneth McDaniel Conyers (Dee), and Glen Byrum Conyers (Cindy); his grandchildren: Heather, Herb (Josh), Whitney, Kevin, Jessica, and Brooke; and his great grandchildren: Hazel and Isabelle.

Bo was preceded in death by his father and mother and sisters Gloria Mims and Betty Wagstaff.
