Obituary for Ernest Gail Barker Jr., M.D. of Raleigh, NC
May 24, 1939 - December 3, 2018

Gail Barker, Jr., M.D.  passed away Monday, December 3, 2018 at home with his family.

Gail served as Naval Medical Officer aboard USS Neosho during the Vietnam Conflict. He earned his undergraduate and medical degrees at UNC Chapel Hill. He completed his residency in Radiology at the University of Kentucky, where he served as Chief Resident and Associate Professor. Subsequently, he entered private practice in Morehead, Kentucky at St. Claire Regional Medical Center. Over his career, he also practiced in North Carolina, West Virginia, Arizona, and South Dakota.

A Raleigh native, Gail felt a deep love and appreciation of Southern culture which he shared with others through his book recommendations, music preferences, and food selections. He got a kick out of the nickname "Dreg" given to him by his daughters. His family will miss hearing that name, as well as the witty stories of the man who bore it.

Gail is remembered with love by Theresa Barker and his children Genevieve, Susan and her fiancé Richard Ahrens, Alexandria and her husband, Jimson Gardner, and stepson Major Aaron Homjak and his wife, Harley.
