Obituary for David Jack Howell of Raleigh, NC
Died March 21, 2015

David Jack Howell, 75, died peacefully Saturday, March 21, 2015 after a long battle with prostate cancer.

He was born in Clinton, NC to the late David and Ruby Howell.

David moved to Raleigh in 1950. He graduated from Needham Broughton High School in 1957 and attended Campbell and Atlantic Christian. He was in the Army Reserves. In 1964 he married Betty Jean Satterwhite of Durham, NC.

He started his own furniture refinishing and antique business. For two decades he sold antique furniture at the Raleigh Flea Market, where he made many great friends.

David had a passion for restoring classic cars. He restored his father's 1915 Model T Ford, taking it to car shows where he won the national prize in 1979. Later he restored old Mustangs, including Jackie's first car, a red 1965 Mustang.

David was an avid gardener, who gave away vegetables to his friends and neighbors. He was a good neighbor who often helped with taking down trees and cleaning up after storms.

He was most excited about the birth of his granddaughter, Scarlett in 2012. Known as Papa, he spent time with her frequently and they enjoyed a precious relationship.

David will be remembered for his warm personality, his ability to fix anything, his craftsmanship, his sense of humor and for the many hours he spent playing with and teaching his daughter.

David is survived by his daughter Jackie Lynn Cullen and his granddaughter Scarlett Arleen Cullen.
